Dates and Topics:
The Middle East Academy for Medicine of Ageing
announces the second advanced postgraduate course in geriatrics
for the years 2008/2009. The highly successful format of
intensive student participation in working groups, giving
short presentations and leading discussions, as well as
state-of-the-art lectures by experts in the field will be
followed again.
The second course of the MEAMA consists of four sessions
of four days each and will start in April 2008 and will
continue in Nov 2008. The third session and the fourth sessions
will be in April 2009 and Nov l 2009.
This intensive study course composed of four sessions is directed towards
physicians, nurses, social workers, and health care officers,
responsible for the health care of older people. In addition
to faculty members of medical, nursing, social and physiotherapy
schools interested in developing the field of geriatrics
and gerontology. The course can also be attended by junior
potential academic staff working in other fields (internal
medicine, sub-specialities, biology) involving the ageing
process and care of elderly people. The complete programme
aims to increase scientific, clinical, educational and managerial
competences in medical gerontology. A certificate will be
issued by the Group of Executive Board of the MEAMA after
successfully conclusion of the four sessions.
The Second Course is accredited by Multimedia University-MMU-Australia.
It is counted toward 16 postgraduate credits of any of the
degrees offered by the University including
1- Master of Science in Geriatrics and Gerontology ( 60
credits )
2- Postgraduate Diploma in Geriatrics and Gerontology (36
credits )
3- Certificate in Geriatrics and Gerontology ( 24 credits)
Each session will grant the participant 4 credit hours
of course work and participant can elect to enrol in the
University to finish one of the above degrees.

Each session will receive 30 Category 1 points - the highest
category
CME/CPD credit based on reciprocal accreditation with (the
QA&CPD program
of) the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners
(RACGP) and the Australian College of Rural & Remote
Medicine (ACRRM). The total number of credits will be calculated
once the final program is out.

Location of the course:
The first session will take place in Tripoli-Lebanon. The location of the other three sessions will be decided later between Lebanon and other locations in the Middle-East.

Research |
A basic understanding of research design and research methodologies related to geriatric medicine, including critical evaluation of medical literature.
One aspect of research teaching is to make the participants get involved in one project during the two year period. In the previous course the group were involved in working with RAI instruments which was interesting. We will follow the same in the coming course with some modifications.
